Speaking during an interview on a local television station on Monday, August 11, 2025, Eugene Wamalwa painted a picture of a man whose generosity knew no bounds, often extending help to strangers and friends.“I would get home and find many children from Kiminini and Cherengany who had been chased from school, and he would give everything to help those children. Then, later when he returned home, he would tell me, ‘Eugene, you also need school fees?'” Wamalwa recounted.Eugene elaborated on how Kijana’s charitable nature required the family to practice patience while he prioritised helping others in need.
“He was generous but would ensure we returned to school,” he remarked.
Support from friends
Eugene highlighted that this generosity was one of Kijana’s defining traits, a quality that garnered him admiration and affection from the community. He recalled how his brother’s circle of friends would often visit him with gifts or financial support.Eugene explained that these offerings, like other gifts and possessions his brother received, were also given away generously.“He also had many friends. Those friends would come to give him support, and when he was given something, he would start giving it away even while those friends were still there, until the money was finished,” Eugene stated. He further noted that if someone was given help but showed discontent, Kijana Wamalwa would reclaim what he had given and pass it on to someone in greater need.“If you were there and he had given you something and you hadn’t left yet, he would tell you to bring back what was yours so he could return it to you, and he would take that too and give it away,” he added.
